TRS ignoring poll promises: BJP

more-in

The first Cabinet meeting of the Telangana Government, six months after the elections to the Assembly, was only for providing land to ruling party offices in the districts, and finalise plans to build a Secretariat and Assembly buildings even as it ignored the demands of the employees, unemployed youth and promises made in the election manifesto, charged the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday.

At a press conference, party president K. Laxman said the six-hour Cabinet meeting raised the hopes of various sections of people about fulfilment of promises made by the ruling party during the run up to the elections but were disappointed that the government is only interested in ‘wasteful expenditure’ of public money in constructing a Secretariat and Assembly.

RTC woes

“The Cabinet meeting conveniently bypassed the issue of RTC woes, interim relief as well as pay revision to the government employees, filling of thousands of vacancies in government departments etc.,” he said, and was critical of the tone and tenor of the language used by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government.

Taking strong objection to the Chief Minister accusing the Centre of not helping the State, the BJP leader reminded him that quick permissions given to various projects, including Kaleshwaram, and relaxing of the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act norms, helped in getting loans. Generous grants of up to ₹11,000 crore were given for irrigation projects, and the national highways are being taken up extensively only because of the Centre’s largesse, he maintained.

Mr. Laxman also stated the protest programme in front of schools charging exorbitant fees in the city will begin from tomorrow at a private school in RTC crossroads.
