Nagpur: Light rainfall on Thursday brought respite from sweltering heat in the city. According to the met department, monsoon is expected to hit Vidarbha in the next five-six days.
Late in the afternoon on Thursday, Nagpur received a rainfall of 2 millimetres, bringing the maximum temperature down to 40.6 degree Celsius, which was still five degrees above normal. On Wednesday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 41.5 degree Celsius.
As per met officials, pre-monsoon showers have hit some parts of the region. “Though light, the rains can be termed as beginning of pre-monsoon showers. Monsoon has hit Goa and Konkan belt and its onset in Vidarbha is expected in soon,” said Mohanlal Sahu, deputy director of Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur.
As per RMC data, Amravati received the highest rainfall in the region on Thursday at 3.1mm. Apart from this, Buldhana and Yavatmal received 0.9 and 0.7mm rains, respectively.
At 42.3 degree Celsius, Bramhapuri was the hottest in the region. Maximum temperatures in Nagpur are expected to be around 40 degree Celsius for the next two days. By the start of next week, the mercury levels are expected to witness a further dip to 37-35 degree Celsius.
