The government is contemplating bringing in an ordinance for abolition of the governing committees of various temples constituted by the previous TDP government, according to Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivasa Rao.
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the government had no option but to take the ordinance route as the heads of several temple trust boards, including the TTD, refused to step down following their party’s defeat in the recent elections.

The Cabinet, at its recent meeting, also recommended constitution of a fresh TTD board of trustees to ensure that the ongoing developmental activities were carried on without any hindrance.
Besides addressing the concerns of the devotees over the safety of the precious jewellery belonging to the Tirumala temple, an inquiry would be ordered into the circumstances that led to the controversial seizure of 1,381 kg gold by the election authorities in Chennai.
Efforts would also be made to find an amicable solution to the problems being faced by the hereditary priests working in the temples across 13 districts in the State.
