Headless body of woman in Assam sparks human sacrifice rumours

GUWAHATI: The beheaded body of a woman was found on Wednesday in the Nilachal Hills, near Kamakhya temple, which will host the annual Ambubachi Mela from Saturday.
“Her body was found on a walking route near the Durga temple,” Guwahati police commissioner Deepak Kumar said. The severed head has not been found yet.

“Some puja items were found near the body. The bloodstains at the spot and on the body are critical. Only after the post-mortem report can we confirm if she was killed here or somewhere else,” joint commissioner of police Debaraj Upadhaya said.
The temple’s priests body denied speculation about human sacrifice. “It is the handiwork of miscreants. We condemn it,” said Bhupesh Kumar Sarma, secretary of the Kamakhya Bardeuri Samaj.
