Illegal tobacco products manufacturing unit busted in Tamil Nadu, VCK functionary among two arrested

VELLORE: Organised Crime Intelligence Unit sleuths from Chennai busted an illegal tobacco products manufacturing unit at the house of a Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) functionary at Vellore in Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
They seized four tonne of banned tobacco products (Hans), raw material and chemicals and arrested VCK functionary Mohammed Ibrahim, 37 and his accomplice Afzal Basha.
Based on a tip-off, a team headed by inspector Jayanthi conducted a surprise raid at the house of Ibrahim -- who is VCK’s district core committee member -- on the PTC Salai here on Sunday morning and seized the banned tobacco products and other items, police said.
Ibrahim had used a portion of his house for illegal manufacturing of tobacco products, police said.
