IS module: NIA seizes 2 hard disks from house of arrested man’s friend

Coimbatore: National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths seized two hard disks that had content propagating Islamic State (IS) ideology during a search at the house of one M Shinod, 35, at BK Pudur near Kuniyamuthur here on Thursday.

Shinod was a friend of Mohammed H Azarudeen, 32, who was arrested by the NIA, Kochi, along with Y Shiek Hidhayathullah, 38, last week for spreading IS ideology among youth. Azarudeen told officials that he had handed over two hard disks to Shinod. Based on this, the NIA team from Kochi brought Azarudeen to the house of Shinod around 1pm, interrogated Shinod and seized the hard disks. The search lasted over 30 minutes.
Officials from the special intelligence cell (SIC) of the Coimbatore city police and the special intelligence unit (SIU) of the state police also came to the spot and questioned Shinod, who was a computer service man. When reporters contacted Shinod, he refused to speak. According to sources, Azarudeen and Sheik Hidhayathullah were taken into custody for five days by the NIA on an order by the special court for NIA cases in Kochi. As the custody will get over on Friday, the accused will be produced before the special court and lodged in prison in Kochi.
