CHENNAI: A 28-year-old man who walked into the Ashok Nagar police station with a bleeding neck created panic on Wednesday.
Around 12.30pm, the man, identified as Karthik, inflicted injury on himself to avoid a police inquiry after his second wife, Sumithra, 24, threatened to lodge a harassment complaint against him for beating her.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Karthik married Sumithra after the demise of his first wife. He often assaulted her.
Fearing police inquiry on her complaint, he devised the plan to divert the police attention by attacking himself.
Karthik was treated as an out-patient at a government hospital and is currently stable, said an investigation officer.

Police said Karthik, a resident of Ashok Nagar, was involved in at least three cases and the Royala Nagar police had opened a history sheet record.
Meanwhile, based on Sumithra’s complaint, the Ashok Nagar police have registered a case against Karthik and further inquiries are on.
