The duo who were arrested for alleged ATM fraud on Wednesday might have successfully pulled off the fraud in the past, Mattancherry police believe.

Amin Khan, 42, of Alwar district in Rajasthan, and Riyaju Khan, 27, of Palwal district in Haryana, were arrested after an alleged ATM fraud at an SBI ATM near the bank’s branch at Kalvathy near Fort Kochi.

The police have found that the duo had pulled off ATM frauds using 12 ATM cards of five banks by manipulating the ATM machines right before the ATM cash chest was to dispense the currency notes.

The duo were produced before the court and remanded. The police plan to further investigate the case once they receive custody of the accused.

“Though the fraud may not have been committed at the ATMs here, we plan to visit the local branches of all the banks concerned as part of the probe,” said V.S. Navas, Station House Officer, Mattancherry.

The duo lost the plot when their attempt to cover the CCTV camera at the ATM was promptly detected by the bank officials at the adjoining branch. Though they tried to flee, they were chased down by the security guards with the help of the public.
