UP: Seven children feared drowned as vehicle falls into canal in Mohanlalganj

LUCKNOW: At least seven children were feared drowned after the vehicle carrying them fell into Indira Canal in Mohanlalganj area of Lucknow early Thursday morning.
Police said that along with children 23 other passengers were also travelling in a goods carrier jeep and were rescued.

Personnel of State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) have been pressed into service to retrieve the body of missing children.
Superintendent of police (rural) Vikrant Vir said that around 29 persons, including six children of Loni Katra in Barabanki district, were returning from a wedding ceremony.
"Around 3am, the driver of the vehicle lost control on the wheels and failed to notice a turn and it plunged into a canal near Patwa village under Nagram area," added Vir.

"Hearing a loud thud villager came to rescue men and women while children drowned," an officer said.
Later, the police control room was informed for assistance.
