A farmer accused of stealing his neighbour's calves and cutting their ears with scissors to remove their identification tags has been charged with animal cruelty.
Detectives from northern New South Wales allege that on Tuesday May 21 a farmer in the region mustered his cattle and discovered cows, calves and a bull in his herd that were not his.
The 35-year-old realised they were his neighbour's and returned the cows and bull but kept the calves.
He then cut out large parts of their ears with scissors to remove their earmark identifications.

He was taken to the Casino Police Station and charged with offences connected to stealing the animals and animal cruelty.
These include steal cattle, commit an aggravated act of cruelty upon an animal, alter/remove permanent identifier, not complete a National Vendors Declaration accurately, apply identifier without consent of owner, and fail to return impounded livestock to owner.
