The first flight saw a deaprture from Madrid on June 3, said the airlines’ Sales Manager Moez Oudi. The booking rate for the new airlink reached 80% so far.
The company will operate four flights a week (Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday) till the end of September.
As of next October, two weekly flights will be scheduled (Monday and Friday). Air Europa will thus run 280 flights and offer 33,600 seats.
Oudi said that the recommencement of flights is part of the air carrier’s strategy to fortify its positioning in North Africa. Air Europa bets on the Tunisia, which is a favorite holiday spot for Spanish tourists.
Spanish authorities lifted a travel ban on some of Tunisia’s southern regions early May.
During the first five months of this year, the number of Spanish tourists in Tunisia went up 14.4% compared to the same period last year.
Tunisian tourism had suffered a hard blow in 2015 following three deadly terror attacks that targeted foreign tourists.
