The first-ever Peruvian film festival in the city was inaugurated at Alliance Francaise in Nungambakkam on Monday.
Carlos R. Polo, the Ambassador of the Embassy of Peru said, “We hope that the selection of films will help give the audience a perspective on the political, cultural, economic and social aspects of life in Peru. The films are an introduction to Peruvian cinema, which is constantly evolving to reflect a change in reality.” He also said that they hoped to bring more internationally renowned films to the city.
The festival, organised by the Embassy of Peru, New Delhi and the Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation, will see the screening of five films over two days. While the films Black Butterfly and Dark Heaven were screened on Monday, Captain Pantoja and the Special Services, Gods, and Days of Santiago will be screened on Tuesday.
The chief guest, A.C. Mohandoss, Member of the State Human Rights Commission, said for the youth, films were their first window to look at the reality of society, life and the people across the world.
