Nadiad man held for blackmailing married woman

The accused, Nikunj Soni
VADODARA: The detection of crime branch (DCB) has arrested a Nadiad resident for allegedly threatening and blackmailing a married woman.
Nikunj Soni (30) was nabbed by the cops after the woman, a resident of Karelibaug, filed a complaint against him. The complainant told the police that she had met Soni on Facebook six months back.
“The woman and Soni developed friendship and soon they began chatting on Whatsapp. Soni even visited her home few times. After a few days, Soni began threatening her that he will make their chats public and send them to her husband. In March 2019, Soni forcefully took power of attorney from her,” the police said.

In May, Soni approached the woman’s mother and threatened both of them. He threatened that he would kidnap her son if she doesn’t pay up Rs 10 lakh. The complainant’s mother then paid up Rs seven lakh. But Soni again approached her mother and took another Rs five lakh. The accused even took five blank cheques that had signatures of the complainant. “Soni forcefully took away the complainant’s mother’s ornaments. He then threatened the complainant that he will use the power of attorney and ensure that she loses her house,” said Jaydeepsinh Jadeja, DCP (crime).
When the complainant blocked his number, Soni called up her husband and began threatening him as well. The police have recovered a car worth Rs five lakh from the accused. “The accused was jobless. It seems he used to cheat women with same modus operandi,” the police said.
