NEW DELHI: After the hike in the fares of autorickshaws, rides in
Gramin Sewa tempos might get costlier as well. Delhi government is likely to revise the fare of Gramin Sewa tempos that mostly ply in the rural areas of the city. Around 6,500 such vehicles are a key transportation facility in the peripheral areas of Delhi that are not well connected with other modes of transport.
Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday directed the transport department to submit a report within 15 days after a delegation of Gramin Sewa tempo drivers’ union called upon him at Delhi Secretariat and put up their demands.
Even though the latest fare revision has made autorickshaw rides 18% costlier, the fares of Gramin Sewa vehicles have not been revised for the last 10 years.
The union members also informed Kejriwal about route constraints being put in different areas for Gramin Sewa that lead to restricted movements of their vehicles.
Delhi government’s transport department will prepare a report on the fare structure being followed by the tempos currently, the issues of route restrictions faced by the drivers and other aspects.
