Sound health is important, he says

Heavy workload became order of the day for the legal fraternity with the increasing number of cases. Fitness is of paramount importance for judges and advocates, says retired Grade-I District and Sessions Judge Pappala Jagannadha Rao, who turned as a yoga guru

He has been conducting yoga classes for all sections of the society and plans to perform difficult ‘asanams’ on the occasion of International Yoga Day on June 21.

Mr. Jagannadha Rao, 72, has been giving top priority to fitness, games and sports for the last five decades and became a role model for others by winning many medals in various competitions.

He was overall champion of the College Sports Meet conducted in VS Krishna College in 1972. He won medals in weightlifting competition in 1976 while studying law in Andhra University.

He emerged as winner of 10K run conducted for judicial officials in Khammam in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of the court. He is actively participating in running races conducted exclusively for veterans.

Recently, he was the winner of 5K run competition conducted in Srikakulam district.

Mr. Jagannadhara Rao, who hails from Kintali village of Srikakulam, proved his talent in legal profession also. He played an active role in abolition of Mirasi system in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams between 1993 and 95.

“Judges and advocates who had command over subject can perform in a better way. So, all of them should give utmost priority for yoga which makes them fit both physically and mentally. I have been conducting classes for them and others regularly,” he said while speaking to The Hindu.

Mr. Jagannadha Rao is a president of Srikakulam Intellectual Forum. With his initiative, the government is taking steps for the effective implementation of various Acts including The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act-2009 which is widely being discussed with the beginning of new academic year.
