'Entitled pig': Mother who sparked a war of words with a café owner after leaving a one-star review over a high chair is bombarded with vile threats - and finally gives her side of the story

  • Kylie Lindsay, from Brisbane, has addressed the scandal in an opinion piece
  • She became a target of abuse after leaving a bad review for the Low Road Cafe
  • Cafe gave an unfiltered response after she complained it didn't have high chairs
  • She was then met with online abuse from the cafe in heated social media posts

A mother who was involved in a public online spat with a cafe owner after leaving a bad review has told how she was subjected to vile abuse and threats.

Kylie Lindsay made headlines last week after she left what she believed was a 'polite' review on The Low Road Cafe's Facebook page after visiting last Sunday.

Ms Lindsay gave the establishment in Brisbane one star after she was dissatisfied by the fact that it did not have any highchairs for her child.

The unsuspecting mum, however, did not expect her comments to spiral from an innocent review into an international media storm.

She has since addressed the scandal in an essay for the Courier-Mail where she hit out at her critics while urging others to stand up to bullies.

'Every business is entitled to their own prerogative and same for their customers,' Ms Lindsay said.

'For me, this whole saga was actually about standing up to online bullying and trolling - putting my hand up and saying "hang on, this behaviour is not ok."

After leaving the poor review, the Windsor cafe gave her an unfiltered response about customers leaving their 'crap' on highchairs.

The matter escalated further when Ms Lindsay shared her story in a Brisbane mother's group on Facebook.

The cafe owners then began to bully her on social media and even displayed a noticeboard in front of the store which read 'now with low chairs, love ya Kaz', for 'Karen' - a name which has become a meme to refer to difficult middle-aged women.

Ms Lindsay said she was described as 'a massive sh*tface to small business' was told 'Don't forget to go f*ck yourself', 'Go to Maccas' and that she was a 'loser c**t.'

In one scathing comment, The Low Road Cafe attacked the woman's politics which she argued had 'no relevance' to the situation.

'You are an a**hole, and when questioned you deleted all of your comments. Your profile tells us you're a racist too. Keep your one star review. We do not need you,' the comment read.

After the drama began to receive media coverage, Ms Lindsay admitted she had to tell herself not to read the 684 comments the story received in 24 hours.

Feedback on the article included comments such as 'good god woman, you don't know when to stfu do you.' 'Hai guys, bored mother here.' 'Headline should read bored housewife seeks attention.' 'Pissed off an entitled ranga.'

She also received emails from anonymous or fake accounts calling her an 'entitled pig' and was told she made 'the world sick.'

She shared a screenshot of a vile email she received stating: 'Just wondering where you buy your sarongs from and whether they sell them per piece rather than by the square acre as you seem to by them?'

Ms Lindsay went on to say she was not seeking sympathy but is aiming to set an example by teaching others to stand up to bullies.

Ms Lindsay also said the cafe called her 'Karen' instead of Kylie which she claims was written on a noticeboard in front of the cafe. The noticeboard read: 'Now with low chairs!!! Love ya, Kaz!'

'If this little storm in a teacup has taught me anything, it's that bullies and trolls are only tough till you take it right back up to them, and then they crumble and fall like a tonne of bricks', she said.

The Low Road Cafe has varying reviews on its Facebook page, ranging from support to distaste in customer service.

The cafe did not want to comment on the matter last week when contacted by Daily Mail Australia.

Cafe owner Naomi told The Courier-Mail they believe their first answer was appropriate, before Ms Lindsay shared it with parenting groups.

'A regular sent us a screen shot and said she's trying to make us out to be anti-family,' she told the publication.

'She's going to get called an a**hole if she goes rabbiting on.

'We are a small mum and dad business, we are cheeky and we're not professional by any stretch.'
