Ailing Mulayam takes oath from his seat, Owaisi raises ‘Allaho Akbar, Jai Hind’ slogan

With the special permission of the House, Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav took oath of membership from his seat on Tuesday, the second day of the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha.

An unwell looking Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav came on wheelchair into the House helped by his lawmaker son and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

Mr Mulayam Singh took a seat near the entrance doors.

The Chair took the permission of members and allowed him to take oath from his seat. He signed the register from his place as well.

Parliamentary Minister Pralhad Joshi stood alongside Mr Yadav and other members irrespective of party affiliation congratulated the Mainpuri MP.

BJP member from Kota, Om Birla, who is likely to be NDA nominee for the coveted Lok Sabha Speaker’s post, was greeted with ‘badhaiyaan’ (congratulations)’ as he came for the oath taking.

Former Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram and CPI leader D Raja were seen in the Rajya Sabha gallery.

Mr Chidambaram looked happy as his son Karti Chidambaram, Congress member from Tamil Nadu took oath.

Mr Raja was seen congratulating the senior Chidambaram.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor looked dapper in blue and shook hands with Union ministers including Ravi Shankar Prasad and Rajnath Singh.

Notable among the newly elected lawmakers who took oath on Tuesday include Rajyavardhan Rathore and Sunny Deol, both BJP, Congress member Manish Tewari, DMK members M Kanimozhi and Dayanidhi Maran and Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM.

At the end of her taking oath Kanikozhi hailing Tamil Nadu state and Pariyar movement.

When Hyderabad member Asaduddin Owaisi rose to take oath, ‘Bharat mata ki jai’ and ‘Vande matram’ slogans were heard from BJP benches, however he smiled and gestured them to carry.

He took oath in Urdu and ended with ‘Jai Bheem, Allaho Akbar, Jai Hind’.

When the Hyderabad MP came forward to take oath, the BJP members raised ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ and ‘Vande Matram’ slogans, however he smiled and gestured them to carry.

Other Tamil Nadu members also ended their oath hailing ‘Tamil Nadu and Periyar movement’, in retaliation to BJP members frequently raising ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ slogans.

However, the chair ruled that nothing will go on record except for what was written in the oath taking sheet.

Congress MP from Telangana A R Reddy took his oath, reading from his mobile.

Revati Tripura, BJP MP from Tripura, dressed in green and red traditional dress, took oath in Hindi, with a little difficulty, but earned a good applause from BJP benches.

Members from Rajasthan, Sikkim, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and other states took the oath on the second day on Tuesday.

On the first day of the session on Monday, Prime Minister and Leader of the House Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, other Union Ministers and Congress president Rahul Gandhi took the oath.
