Professor Afifullah Khan is new AMU proctor

 Professor Afifullah Khan, department of wildlife sciences has been appointed as the Proctor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). The order to this effect was issued here on Monday, June 17, by University Registrar, Mr Abdul Hamid (IPS).

As Proctor, Prof Afifullah, also the chairman, department of wild life sciences will be responsible for maintaining the law and order in the University and for acting as liaison between university and district administration. Professor Afifullah, a distinguished academician has a vast administrative experience as well as he served as a deputy proctor and an assistant dean of student’s welfare.  He will take over the charge of Proctor Office in addition to his own duties for a period of two years or until further orders.

Prof Afifullah joined the University as a lecturer in the department of wildlife sciences in 1989 and since then, he has been significantly contributing to the academic and corporate life of the University.  His thorough academic grounding and research acumen reflected in several path breaking studies especially on elephants and tigers and he wrote chapters on the book published by the Oxford University Press. He played a vital role in the development of the department and its academic programmes.

He has been successful in obtaining substantial amount of grant from University Grants Commission during his tenure as chairman of the department besides adding courses in MSc curriculum.

Prof Afifullah developed and introduced a certificate course in the department on application of remote sensing and GIS.

He implemented 12 research projects in the capacity of Co-Principal and Principal Investigator and is currently on the panel of two scientific journals as a reviewer.

Prof Afifullah has served as member on several important committees constituted by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India and WWF-India.

He has also served as consultant of ‘Teri’ to evaluate World Bank’s aided Forestry Project of Government of Uttar Pradesh and as Honorary Additional Director, Centre for Promotion of Science in AMU.
