Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has taken action against the ticketless travellers. The transport body has earned Rs 29.82 lakh as fine from the offenders in the last five months. The fine of Rs 300 each was imposed on 9,900 passengers in that period.

The highest number of offenders were caught in January, with PMPML collecting Rs 7 lakh as fine from 2,342 passengers, who were travelling without a ticket. However, the number has dropped in May to 1,648 passengers.

The PMPML has deputed a special team to check each bus all routes. The department had formed 12 ticket checker teams at major routes. The ticketless travellers were caught during evening rush hours.

“We have 12 teams at a busy junction. It was found that during evening rush hours, the number of ticketless travellers was higher than during the day. Each passenger was fined Rs 300. However, the number was very high in January and dropped accordingly after that. The team is checking tickets every day and offenders are being fined,” said a senior officer of PMPML.
