BENGALURU: The Congress high command late on Tuesday evening suspended senior party MLA R Roshan Baig for disparaging utterances against his leaders.
In a two paragraph terse announcement, KPCC general secretary VY Ghorpade said the AICC approved the proposal sent by the state Congress unit to take action against Baig. "He has been suspended from the party with immediate effect on the basis of inquiry conducted against him," the statement said.
Earlier in the day, KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao said that he had recommended to the party high command for disciplinary action against Baig. Gundurao said he had taken note of Baig's recent outburst against Congress leaders including AICC general secretary KC Venugopal and state revenue minister RV Deshpande’s statement about Baig’s alleged intervention in favour of IMA scam kingpin Mohammed Mansoor Khan.
“Deshpande is a senior leader and former KPCC president. His statements need to be taken seriously. Moreover, Baig had accused state leaders of giving cabinet berths for monetary considerations,” Gundurao said.
Baig had called Venugopal a buffoon, criticised what he called former CM Siddaramaiah's arrogant attitude and described Gundurao a flopshow leader. “I feel sorry for my leader Rahul Gandhiji,” because of buffoons like Venugopal, the arrogant attitude of CLP leader Siddaramaiah and the flop show of KPCC president Dinesh Gundurao, the result is this,” he had said referring to the Congress winning just one seat in the Lok Sabha polls in the state.

Meanwhile, another senior Congress leader HK Patil who has been opposing state government’s decision to sell 3667 acres of land to JSW Steel and expressed dissatisfaction over action taken with regard to IMA scam, rushed to Delhi on Tuesday after being summoned by Venugopal.
He is expected to meet Venugopal and other Congress leaders tomorrow and put forth his views on JSW Steel land deal and IMA scam.
