A photograph of a man taking up three seats on a packed train, forcing other commuters to stand, has sparked controversy over whether or not he was in the wrong.
The hoodie clad passenger was pictured sleeping across an entire row of chairs in a peak hour Sydney train on Tuesday, while other travelers struggled to find an empty seat.
The image was posted on social media platform Reddit, receiving mixed reviews with some rushing to his defence saying he most likely fell asleep while the train was empty.

Many people defended the man who was dressed in an all black tracksuit saying he may have fallen asleep or was homeless and was just trying to find somewhere warm to rest.
'Maybe the train was empty when he fell asleep? Doesn't mean he was being a jerk,' one Reddit user commented.
'More likely this dude is homeless and wanted a warm place to sleep,' another wrote.
Some said this had happened to them before and people shouldn't be so quick to judge.

While some people defended the rider, others slammed him for being inconsiderate of other passengers on a peak hour train.

The sleeping commuter was slammed by other people claiming he had a 'lack of basic common courtesy'
'The lack of basic common courtesy for anyone gives me so much anxiety I have no idea how people like this function. I can’t see one scenario where this is OK,' someone commented.
People said this was a constant occurrence on Sydney trains with many passengers taking up more than one seat for their belongings.
