For CPM, Kodiyeri and Binoy are two individuals

Thiruvananthapuram: The vernacular news channels in the state that decided to take up the rape and cheating allegations against Binoy Balakrishnan Kodiyeri, son of CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, for prime-time debates were in for a crisis as the party refused to send any of its spokespersons.
The ruling party, which is, however, upset over the repeated allegations against its chief’s son, do not want to intervene but would rather view Balakrishnan and Binoy as two different individuals by highlighting technical grounds over moral grounds.
Binoy Kodiyeri was in news for all the wrong reasons in the beginning of 2018 when his former business partner slapped a criminal charge for fraud in a court in the UAE, following which he was issued a travel ban.
Though the CPM didn’t respond officially on the issue, Binoy’s brother Bineesh Kodiyeri had then told reporters that the crisis was like any similar ones in the business world and Binoy could settle the issue.
The CPM politburo (PB) is learned to have received complaints from a few individuals against Binoy Kodiyeri about the UAE episode, but, the party didn’t initiate any action against Balakrishnan as the leadership took it as a personal issue of Binoy in which his father hadn’t been involved.
On Tuesday, the only state leader who came out in open to defend Balakrishnan was CPM state secretariat member M V Govindan.

He told a public meeting in Thalassery that there was an attempt to attack the party secretary using the complaints against his son. Govindan said Binoy would have to deal with the case himself and the party wouldn’t support any wrongdoing. “But, if there are attempts to attack Balakrishnan using these allegations, we will defend him”, he said.
Meanwhile in New Delhi, PB member Brinda Karat told reporters that party has nothing to do with the allegations. She said the case against an individual needed to be defended by him.
