AGRA: Mathura’s Radhakund police post was reportedly vandalised by agitated residents of Kunjera village on Monday night following the brutal killing of a 65-year-old man, whose mutilated body was found in Radhakund-Kunjera jungle.
According to the police, the mob attacked the police post around 10pm, when family members of the deceased, Hukum Singh, were sitting at Govardhan police station. Around 40-45 unidentified persons including 20 women, who reached the police post in a tractor-trolley, pelted stones and damaged chairs, tables, a fan, and a motorcycle, which was parked there.
Outraged residents of Kunjera village also shouted slogans against the police as police personnel claimed that the deceased could have been killed by a wild animal. Locals also alleged that police earlier denied to register an FIR in this regard. A few police personnel, who were present at the time of the attack, fled the post to save themselves from the mob.
However, police has registered a murder case on the basis of a complaint given by the deceased’s family. Another case was registered against 40-45 unidentified people, who had attacked the police post. They all were booked under sections 147 (rioting), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of IPC and 7 CLA Act.
Ajay Yadav, a senior sub-inspector at Govardhan police station, told TOI that the deceased’s nude body was found just 2.5-3 km away from his house in bad condition. His left eye had been gauged out and there were deep cuts across his body parts. He said, body was sent for post mortem.
Mathura senior superintendent of police (SSP) Shalabh Mathur said that family members have not named anyone in the FIR. He said, further investigations are on and exact cause of death will be revealed in the post-mortem report. A team of Forensic Science laboratory (FSL) has also been called for examination of the spot.
Mathur said that action will be taken against police personnel, if any kind of callousness surfaces on their part in handling the case.
Hukum Singh had gone out of his house around 11am with his cattle and his body was found around 5.30pm.
