Sangeeta from Arjun Nagar, who had lost her mobile phone four months ago, was in for a pleasant surprise when she got a call from the police. She was told that her phone has been recovered.
Ms. Sangeeta was among 65 people who were handed over their lost mobile phones by Police Commissioner Muhammad Akil on Monday at a small function in his office.
Mr. Akil had recently directed the police to immediately lodge non-cognisable offence report in such theft cases and return the device to the owners after tracing it.
Aanchal, another resident who got her phone back, said she found the Gurugram Police “active, effective and helpful”. Mr. Akil directed officers to expedite their efforts to recover lost phones and return them to their owners every week, after completing legal formalities.
The phones were recovered by the Cyber Cell branch of the police. Some devices were traced to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
