Woman gangraped in Patna, two arrested

PATNA: A 19-year-old married woman was allegedly gangraped by two persons at a secluded place below Rajendra Nagar overbridge near Dinkar roundabout here on Tuesday at around 2am.
Police has arrested two persons in connection with the incident. The arrested persons had been identified as Ranjeet Kumar (30), a painter by profession while another arrested person was identified as Chotu Kumar (28), an e-rickshaw driver.
Their associate Deepak Kumar (25), who is also an e-rickshaw driver, had been kept in police custody to ascertain if he had any role in the incident or not. All three are residents of Lohanipur locality under Kadamkuan police station area.
DSP (town) Suresh Kumar said the survivor, in her statement before police has accused Ranjeet and Chotu of raping her.
“She had told police that Deepak tried to safeguard her but failed,” he said adding the vicitm was sent for medical examination.
The matter surfaced after the survivor approached a Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, when Ranjeet and Deepak forced to make her board a train to Mumbai.
Rajendra Nagar RFP SHO RR Kashyap said a RPF team took the survivor in protective custody and on her indication, two persons - Deepak and Ranjeet - were arrested after a brief chase.
“Our team with counterparts of government rail police (GRP) at the terminal went to spot for identification on further indication of the victim. She was later handed over to the local police for further necessary action,” he said.
Later, Kadamkaun police conducted further raids and also arrested Chotu from Lohanipur.
City SP (central) Prantosh Kumar Das said the woman had fled from her parent’s residence at Asta village under Tharthari police station area in Nalanda with Rs 100 on the night of June 16.
“She was not happy with her husband who lives at Yarpur locality in Gardanibagh,” he said adding she had come in contact with Deepak after reaching Patna.
Sources said Deepak first took her to his residence but his mother denied to keep the woman.
“He later kept her in a nearby place and was taking her to board a train at the terminal when Ranjeet and Chotu spotted the duo in midway and took her to a secluded place following which they raped her,” they said adding further investigation were going on in connection with the incident.
