More than 1 million tourists visited Dubai in first four months of 2019

While Saudi Arabia is leading among the GCC countries with 550,000 tourists, Oman is the second country on the list with 356,000 tourists a 31% increase from the 272,000 tourists last year. Kuwait was third on the list with 133,000 tourists which was a 6% decline in comparison to the same period last year.

 

 

Meanwhile, India was leading the top market source list with 726,000 tourists which was a drop of 9% in comparison to 797,000 tourists recorded last year.

 

 

Now, Dubai will give a free SIM card with complimentary talk time and data, as part of a new initiative being undertaken in Dubai.

 

 

The tourists aged over 18 will be offered the SIM card at the Dubai airport’s immigration counter, according to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai. This new Sim Card will valid for one month, the du SIM card will come with three minutes of talk time and 20MB data.

 

 

The tourists can also top up the card during their stay, local media reported. The project is being undertaken by GDRFA Dubai in collaboration with du and Smart Dubai. Dubai has set a goal of attracting 23-25 million visitors a year by 2025, it was announced last year. On top of the 2025 goal, the emirate wants to attract 21-23 million tourists by 2022 by increasing its presence in major tourism markets, diversifying its sources of income, increasing the competitiveness of its tourism experience and promoting its attractiveness as a business destination.

 

 

The emirate received 4.75 million international overnight visitors in the first quarter of 2019, an increase of 2 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to data from Dubai Tourism.
