Base Metals: Copper, lead futures rise on spot demand

On MCX, zinc for delivery in current month declined 30 paise to Rs 203.40 per kg.

New Delhi: Zinc prices eased 0.15 per cent to Rs 203.40 per kg in futures trade Monday as speculators cut down positions taking weak cues from the spot market.

On Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in current month declined 30 paise, or 0.15 per cent, to Rs 203.40 per kg in a business turnover of 4,722 lots.

Marketmen said weakness in metals in the spot market owing to slackened demand from consuming industries mainly influenced prices.


Copper futures rose by 80 paise to Rs 407.25 per kg Monday amid pick-up in domestic demand at the spot market.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June contracts rose by 80 paise, or 0.2 per cent, to Rs 407.25 per kg in a business turnover of 29,079 lots.

Market analysts said increase in demand from consuming industries mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade here.



Lead prices rose 0.16 per cent to Rs 153.80 per kg in futures trade Monday due to pick up in demand from consuming industries in spot market.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead contracts for June delivery traded higher by 25 paise, or 0.16 per cent, at Rs 153.80 per kg in a business turnover of 2,733 lots.

Market analysts said fresh positions created by traders amid upsurge in demand from battery makers in the spot market led to the rise in lead prices here.
