A 26-year-old film editor’s life was saved because of the Mumbai Police’s prompt action on Friday night.

The film editor, whose name is being withheld, posted a message in Marathi on Facebook on Friday night indicating his intentions to end his life. A resident of MHADA in Andheri (West), the film editor lives with his roommates. Many of his friends and relatives got concerned and tried to reach him, but his phone was switched off.

His brother in Solapur read the message and called Versova police station seeking help. Deputy Commissioner of Police Paramjeet Singh Dahiya ordered a police team to look for him. The cellphone tower location was tracked. Along with the police force, his roommates and colleagues started searching in the nearby locations.

The police received information at 11.15 p.m. and managed to track the film editor to Andheri railway station an hour and a half later. “He had some disputes with his wife for which she moved to her maternal home in Bengaluru. Their differences pushed him to take this step,” sub-inspector Safdar Shaikh said. The film editor posted the message when he was still in office, before heading home.

At home, he kept his bag and left without telling anyone where he was heading. At 12.45 a.m. he was traced to Andheri railway station.

The police suspected if they had not reached there on time, the film editor would have done something drastic. The police ensured that that the editor was counselled before being taken home.
