DUTA calls off protest outside Chief Minister’s house today

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia sanctioned the release of funds to 28 colleges funded by the Delhi government on Saturday after being approached by representatives of the Delhi University Teachers’ Association. The association had highlighted the hardships faced by the teachers.

The government and the university are at loggerheads over the appointment of governing bodies at these colleges. In a letter to the Education Secretary, Mr. Sisodia blamed the university for stalling the functioning of the colleges as it did not extend the tenure of the governing bodies going by precedent.

The Deputy CM sanctioned the release of funds to these colleges for three months, stating that it did not want to cause hardships for the teachers. Following the assurance, the DUTA decided to call off protests to be held outside CM Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Monday. DUTA office-bearers said that they would pursue the matter of formation of these governing bodies with Mr. Sisodia and the university V-C to resolve the matter without further delay.
