CHENNAI: An ambulance driver and medical technician, who attended to an
accident call, found Rs 69 lakh from the damaged car and handed them over to the hospital authorities. In the accident, one person died and two others were injured after one of the tyres of the car they were travelling on burst at Chinnayanchatiram in Kancheepuram district on Saturday evening.
The Kancheepuram Taluk police said Balaji, 30, and Murali were travelling from Dharmapuri to Chennai on Saturday evening along with their driver, Saravanan. When they were nearing Chinnayanchatiram, a tyre burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle. In the impact, the vehicle toppled and crashed.
They were carrying a bag containing cash of Rs 69 lakh which they got from a business deal. They were employed in a firm in
Madhavaram which supplies iron materials and the employees were assigned to collect the money.
Passersby informed the 108 ambulance and police control room. On receiving the call, the ambulance that was parked at Rajakulam in Kancheepuram rushed to the spot. “We got the call at 6.19pm. All the three were found lying outside the car and the three bags which were in torn condition contained cash,” said V Santhanam, the ambulance driver.
He along with D Vijayan, a medical technician, rushed the three victims to a hospital. “We handed over the bags to the hospital authorities,” said Santhanam.
However, Murali succumbed to injuries and the other two are undergoing treatment. Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving and are investigating.
Saravanan and Vijayan were appreciated for their honesty.
