Drug peddler held with 500g opium

Ludhiana: Ludhiana Rural Police have arrested a drug peddler, after 500g of opium was recovered from him near Galib Kalan village of Jagraon. The accused was identified as Navjot Singh of Galib Ran Singh.
Giving details, SP Investigation Ludhiana Rural Police Rupinder Kumar Bhardhwaj said that as part of a special drive against anti-social elements and drug peddlers, ASI Ravinder Singh, along with a police party, was present at the bus stand of Galib Kalan village. He added that the police party received secret information that Navjot was an opium smuggler, and he was coming from his village, Galib Ran Singh to Galib Kalan in his Alto car, bearing registration number PB-29-R-2157.

The SP said that acting on information, the police party set up a checkpost on Sua Pul at Galib Kalan village. He added that then the police party saw the car coming from Galib Ran Singh village, and signalled the driver to stop the vehicle. Police officials said on questioning, the driver identified himself, after which the police started checking the vehicle. They added that during the vehicle’s search, they found a polythene bag near the gear lever of the car, and on checking it, recovered 500g of opium.
The SP said after the recovery, the accused was booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Sadar Jagraon police station, and was arrested.
