How much?

Manchester United are ready to break a world record in their bid to find the answer to their defensive woes.

Their pursuit of Harry Maguire has probably been the worst kept secret in football, and a report over the weekend has suggested that United are ‘ready to spend £80m’ on making the Leicester City centre-half their second signing of the summer.

According to reports executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is ready to meet Leicester’s £80m asking price.

That would break the record fee set for a defender when Liverpool shelled out £75m to Southampton for Virgil van Dijk.

One Champions League trophy later it looks like a shrewd piece of business.

Getting excited now

This this tweet sums up our feeling for the new season perfectly.

While the Premier League fixtures were released last week, the National League ones are being revealed in due time, when Wrexham will know their schedule for the coming campaign.

And we are very excited for the start of the new term.

All change at Chelsea

This this might be the most expected post yet, but there has been some upheaval at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Frank Lampard is the overwhelming favourite to take over as Chelsea manager after Maurizio Sarri’s much-anticipated move to Juventus was confirmed on Sunday.

Sarri replaces Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus following a successful one-season stint at Chelsea in terms of silverware.

The Italian manager guided the Londoners to the Europa League trophy, a third-place Premier League finish and a spot in the Carabao Cup final.

But his only season in charge was plagued by a lack of control of his squad and criticism from fans. Lampard is now expected to leave Derby County and replace Sarri.

More from the North Wales Cricket scene

A quick round up of action from the North Wales Cricket Premier Division and their weekend results.

Bangor retained their status as leaders with a 10-wicket win at Pwllheli.

St Asaph were victorious against Connah’s Quay, scoring 115-1 in 23.5 overs as their opponents were 113 all out.

The result leaves Connah’s Quay languishing at the bottom of the Premier Division with seven points. Second place Denbigh were also in action on Saturday as they took on Brymbo and claimed a solid victory.

Mochdre sealed a 15 run win over local rivals Llandudno.

News from the Racecourse

Some news from the Racecourse, no not that one, the one in Rosario, Argentina.

Wales under-20s are in action this afternoon (2.30pm GMT) in the fifth placed play-off semi-final against New Zealand.

The junior Dragons can only finish as high as fifth after qualifying from their group in second place, the Welsh being beaten to top spot by France following a 32-13 loss in Rosario last week.

Wales had claimed wins over host national Argentina 30-25 in their opening match, and Fiji 44-28.

The North Wales Cricket scene

A little news from the North Wales cricket scene from my colleague Harri Evans.

Colwyn Bay and Northop Hall were both in action in the Liverpool Competition, while Prestatyn’s game with Sefton Park fell victim to the weather.

In the Premier Division the Bay continue to struggle near the bottom after a comprehensive defeat at home by Ormskirk. The visitors set a target of 220-7 declared off 54.4 overs, but the Bay were bowled out for 94 of 32.3 overs in reply.

In the First Division, Northop Hall were all out for 145 off 56.2 overs against Highfield, who went on to post 146-7 off 36 overs to seal victory.

Blues set a price

Everton have long been linked with a move for Ajax star David Neres, and they have been given a boost of sorts over the weekend.

According to a newspaper report the Dutch giants have named their price for the Brazil forward, who is being highly recommended to the Blues hierarchy by compatriot Richarlison.

De Telegraaf report that Ajax would demand more than £80m for Neres this summer, a figure which has alerted Everton and a raft of top clubs across the continent.

Salah's future

Some worrying news for Liverpool fans (even if it might be a way down the line).

Liverpool are apparently worried about losing Mohamed Salah.

A report over the weekend stated that Salah is remaining at Liverpool ahead of next season but according to Mirror Football the forward is still interested in departing Anfield at some point soon.

Respected Mirror journalist John Richardson has provided the details in what has been labelled an exclusive by the national publication. He says that Salah was tempted by the possibility of a move to Real Madrid or Juventus and that he may revisit the idea after turning down the chance this summer.

Both Real and Juventus had been planning £150m bids for the 27-year-old, who has scored 71 goals in 104 games for the Reds.

First up

Right we’ll start off with some news from Manchester United, with reports over the weekend stating that Paul Pogba has admitted he ‘may with to take on a new challenge’.

It has been widely reported that Pogba has endured a frustrating season at Old Trafford, and is seeking a way to leave the Red Devils.

Pogba told journalists in Tokyo: “Like you said, there is a lot of talking and a lot of thinking as well.

“For me I have been for three years in Manchester and have been doing great. Some good moments and some bad moments, like everybody. Like everywhere else.

“After this season and everything that happened, with it being my best season as well, I think for me it could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else.”
