A couple, who were returning home after attending a wedding, was fatally knocked down by a car at Meerpet here on Monday. Police said the accident took place at around 12.10 a.m. near Vanga Anantha Reddy function hall at Manda Mallamma.
The victims were identified as K. Jyothi, 35, and her husband Ganesh Kumar from Sultanshahi.
“When they reached Manda Mallamma, the accused car driver, Mohan Satish Kumar, 28, from Rakshapuram crashed his vehicle into the victims’ two-wheeler from behind. As a result, the couple fell off the bike and suffered severe injuries,” the Meerpet police said.
While death was instant for Jyothi, Ganesh died while undergoing treatment at a corporate hospital. The bodies were sent to Osmania General Hospital for autopsy.
Youth killed
In another road accident, a 22-year-old rider was killed, while his friend suffered injuries after a car hit their bike from behind.
The police said the accident took place at around 2.30 a.m. near YMCA Circle when the victim, Shaik Khaleel, along with his friend Syed Azher was going home at Nallakunta.
“A speeding car coming from Narayanaguda Crossroads hit their bike and the duo suffered injuries,” the police said.
The car driver shifted them to a private hospital at Kachiguda and from there Khaleel was taken to Osmania General Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries. Azher is recuperating.
