FALL RIVER - On June 12, Bristol Community College held a plaque unveiling ceremony outside of the college’s development and foundation office, on the Bristol Fall River campus, in dedication to Loretta George, the founder of the Bristol Community College Foundation.

"Loretta George, of Fall River, was a dedicated, visionary community leader who was committed to making opportunities for public education available to everyone," states a press release from Bristol. "Under Mrs. George’s leadership, the Bristol Community College Foundation was developed more than 50 years ago, with a mission to 'obtain financial support to enhance the ability of Bristol to meet the lifelong educational needs of the growing and changing communities it serves.'”

The ceremony included brief remarks in appreciation of George’s lasting impact from both Bristol Community College President Laura L. Douglas and Bristol Community College Foundation Board President Thomas P. Murray. The plaque, installed near the door of the development and foundation office, containing George’s image, was unveiled by her niece Charlene Joaquim and Bristol Community College President Emeritus Eileen Farley.

The event was attended by George’s family, friends and colleagues, who gathered around the custom plaque that reads “Bristol Community College and the Bristol Community College Foundation dedicate these offices to the memory of Loretta George, who established a culture of philanthropy as a founding member of the Foundation and was a role model and pathfinder for woman leaders in the Greater Fall River Community. With gratitude for her years of service, 1980 – 2013. Dedicated this 12th day of June 2019, Fall River, Massachusetts.”
