Last Cruze finds home with sentimental dealer — for FCA

Customers at an Ohio Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram dealership found something they liked.

The last Chevrolet Cruze built in Lordstown, Ohio, is already on its fourth owner since rolling off the assembly line in March. Its newest home is a Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram dealership.

Dealer John Kufleitner bought the white Cruze to display outside his showroom in Columbiana, Ohio, about 25 miles southeast of Lordstown, TV station WKBN in nearby Youngstown reported. He's inviting residents to come see the car, sit in it and take pictures with it.

"It doesn't matter what you buy, what you sell, what you drive," Kufleitner told the TV station. "Lordstown has played a big role in this valley, and I think it's important to everybody."

Unlike many sedans these days, the final Cruze has actually been in high demand, which is why it has changed hands so many times.

Its first owner was a Chevy dealer near Lordstown who put it on display. A local businessman then bought the car in April so he could auction it to benefit the United Way. The businessman's sister-in-law bought it at auction for $35,000, and she sold it to Kufleitner for the same amount, plus another United Way donation.

Kufleitner, who called the car "a piece of local history," said he might eventually move the Cruze to his galleria of "vintage, classic and pristine cars" that includes a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda and a 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

"I really thought it would end up on a Chevrolet showroom," he said, "and probably should be on somebody's showroom right now — Chevrolet."
