The current Ford GT has much greater track credentials than its predecessor. but as this video shows, the old car is still one hell of a performance machine.

Powering the car is a 5.4-liter supercharged V8. However, the owner has managed to increase power to around the 700 hp mark. This additional grunt actually makes the car slightly quicker than a current GT, which was tested down the same runway and recorded a top speed of 210 mph.

In the world of modified Ford GTs, this example is a tame puppy. There are quite a few modified examples out there that ditch their supercharged V8s in favor of twin-turbocharged mills. The most famous of these comes from a company called M2K Motorsports, which earlier this year, accelerated its best creation to a stunning 300.4 mph (483.44 km/h). What made that feat even more impressive was the fact that it was achieved in just a single mile!

The secret to this insane speed is power, power, and… more power. In fact, that GT delivers 2500 HP to its rear wheels, and until manufacturers like Koenigsegg and Hennessey release their latest hypercars, will probably remain on its own in the road-legal 300 mph car club.
