‘I was a junior doctor, both at the Medical College and SSKM. People must realise that they are junior doctors, who are learning to deal with the patients and their families. There’s a huge responsibility on their shoulders. I guess we all need safety at our workplace and doctors are no exception. During my stint, I didn’t seen so much of cruelty from the patient’s side. I feel those who commit such misdeeds should be arrested. The law enforcement should be strict, so that no one dares to tamper with the security system. Also, the government should have been more empathetic towards junior doctors. Demonstrating power never solves any problem. I guess the two parties should’ve discussed and come up with a solution long back, so that work could have resumed faster. It’s sad to see so many patients being deprived for so long’

‘It’s time when we should let our ego take a backseat and ensure doctors' safety’

‘I was once a junior doctor at the National Medical College, so I know the amount of stress and pressure they handle every day. In most government hospitals, it is always the junior doctors who take maximum work load. Tackling so many patients is not a joke. On top of that, they are asked several questions by the patient's family, who at times get restless and abusive. Personally, I haven't faced a situation like what happened at the NRS. Before beating up doctors, you should remember that they are the ones who save our lives. They sacrifice a lot to serve us. Juniors doctors are always on call at night, which is not an easy life to lead! They don't deserve such bashing. The incident that happened at NRS was inhuman. It's unfortunate that so much time has been wasted over venue selection instead of solving the problem of doctors' safety. It's time when we should let our ego take a backseat and ensure doctors' safety, so that doctors can start work immediately. There are so many patients, who depend on government hospitals for treatment. I think, a bit of tolerance and flexibility can surely resolve this issue’
