Water seepage returns to haunt Mormugao municipal building occupants

Vasco: The leakage of water due to heavy rain from the roof of the Mormugao municipal building has created major inconvenience to visitors and students who study in the school run by the municipal council.

A visit to the first floor of the Mormugao municipal building has revealed that visitors are forced to wear raincoats or they have to come with umbrellas in order to protect themselves from rainwater leaking from the roof.

It was also interesting to note that the passage leading to the classrooms of the Mormugao municipal school was found partially inundated with rain water due to the failure on the part of the municipal authorities to initiate necessary preventive measures to stop the leakages ahead of the monsoon.

Students were also forced to walk from the partially inundated passage, causing them immense hardship.

The situation of the Mormugao municipal run school was worst hit due to the heavy showers on Wednesday with school authorities trying to collect the rain water in plastic buckets.

The school headmistress and the staff members were constantly monitoring the situation and taking stock of every classroom occupied by the students.

MMC chief officer Agnelo Fernandes said, “The municipal authorities will be taking all necessary precautions and measures to stop the leakage. We have already taken steps to cover the rooftop with tarpaulin. The quotation for putting up tarpaulin has been prepared and the work will be initiated during the dry spell to stop the leakage on a war footing.”
