CHANDIGARH: Despite giving two days period to the
West Bengal government, before proceeding on for indefinite strike, the doctors at the PGI felt that no measures have been taken so far. Thus, on Sunday evening they issued a press statement that mentioned their decision of going on with indefinite strike from Monday onwards.
Expressing solidarity
Dr Uttam Thakur, president of.Association of Resident Doctors ARD PGI said, "We stand united with our fellow doctors in WB and request the administration to not underestimate our cause and movement. The demands of our brethren are not being met and we have no option but to go on protest from Monday onwards till indefinite period ( till the time justice is not served.) All services except emergency and ICUs would be restricted from Monday."
A peaceful March from PGI to sector 17 through
Matka chowk will be carried out from 5:30 PM, which will be joined by fellow doctors from
Government Medical College and Hospital 32 and doctors from Indian Medical Association, Chandigarh.
"Enough is enough and now this movement is not going to be called off till the justice is served and security is ensured for Doctors all over India," said Dr Uttam.
Condemning the inaction of the West Bengal government, Dr Uttam said, "We are deeply saddened and disappointed by the ongoing impasse in the state of West Bengal and the lack of genuine initiatives on the part of the WB administration."
The PGI sees around 10,000 patients in the OPDs everyday. It's the only referral and tertiary care centre that caters to the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana.
