GURUGRAM: The fledgling Jannayak Janta Party came together for the first time after the
Lok Sabha election drubbing at the Sukhrali community centre in an attempt to re-energise its cadre as the build-up begins to the assembly polls scheduled later this year.
The district-level meeting, which was spearheaded by
JJP founder and former Hisar MP
Dushyant Chautala, and party president Nishan Singh was called to also introduce party workers to JJP’s election pitch.
“You don’t form a strong party and a government by hanging your head after the loss. We have to stand strong and walk ahead with confidence. Now is the time to put in everything you have got and you’ll see that the Modi wave will be replaced by the JJP wave,” Chautala said his address at the hall packed with party workers.
Talking about the party’s performance in the recently concluded general elections, he pointed out that it was Congress’ weak leadership that failed to contain BJP’s momentum. However, he said, JJP still managed to put a brave fight, hinting at him being one of the few contestants in the state not to lose their deposits.
Chautala and senior party leaders were confident that with the new party symbol— a key —and a progressive manifesto, the party stands a good chance in the assembly polls. “Our symbol means ‘key’ to success, women empowerment, better employment,” said Nishan Singh.
The party also released its list of key focus areas on Saturday and asked its workers to actively spread the message among people. It announced a pension scheme for women aged 55 and above, and measures to pull farmers out of the chronic debt cycle.
“Don’t think about MLA tickets. Just have a single agenda and that is to make the party stronger and the fact that we have to ensure that
Dushyant Chautala becomes the CM,” said Singh.
