NEW DELHI: The 19-year-old girl who had been posing as the victim in an acid attack that took place last Tuesday in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri has been found to be the perpetrator. She was arrested and produced before a magistrate before being sent to jail on Sunday.
It was found that when her boyfriend of three years decided to end the relationship, she made a plan to throw the acid-like substance on him in the hope that with his disfigurement he would have no option but to marry her.
On June 11, police were informed that a couple on a motorcycle had been attacked with acid by unknown men. Both of them had suffered burn injuries. The youth was later found with serious wounds and had to be admitted in RML Hospital for treatment. Initially, it was suspected that a jilted lover of the girl was behind the incident.

While scanning CCTV footage of the area, police failed to notice any person throwing the acid. The youth told police that just before the attack, his girlfriend had asked him to take off his helmet as its strap was disturbing her. The cops got suspicious and called her in for questioning. Initially, she feigned ignorance, but when police found her statements contradictory, she confessed to having thrown the acid-like substance on her boyfriend.
The girl told police that her boyfriend wanted to end the relationship, but she was adamant on marrying him. In a desperate bid to stop him from leaving her, she purchased an acid-like substance. She planned to disfigure the youth so that he would have no other choice but to marry her. That evening, she asked him to remove the helmet saying the strap was disturbing her. As soon as he did that, she threw the acid on his face. She suffered minor burn injuries herself in the process.
