According to association president Amarjit Singh Tikkar, who also is the general secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC): “A large number of illegal commercial buildings are mushrooming in Model Town at a very fast pace. Since Model Town is a residential colony, which was established in 1950 after Partition, 60% of this locality, unfortunately, has now turned into a commercial area by illegal means.
The previous SAD-BJP government illegally declared three roads as commercial roads, and as a result, huge commercial complexes, hospitals, and other such buildings have mushroomed here. So, residents are facing so many problems, including huge traffic jams and parking problems.”
Tikka added: “Therefore, we have sent a memorandum to chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh that in order to save residents of this posh locality, commercial CLU permissions should be immediately scrapped, so that no more commercial activity takes place in Model Town, and the residents can lead a normal life.”
