One-day auto, taxi strike temporarily called off

THANE: The one-day strike called by auto and taxi drivers from June 18 has been suspend after union leaders claimed the government has assured to look into their demands for a hike in minimum fares and immediate freezing of permits in the region.

The announcement was made by Prakash Penkar, president of the Konkan Vibhag Mahasangh on Friday in Thane following a meeting with guardian minister Eknath Shinde and transport minister Diwakar Raut who, he claimed, to have assured to look into their demands soon.
“We were called for discussions by the ministers early this week following our call to go on a one-day strike. The meeting was fruitful and we have been assured of a decision very soon following which we have temporarily called off our for protest scheduled on June 18,” said Penkar.
