THANE: Thousands of residents along Ghodbunder Road have been facing dry taps since the last three days, after the TMC imposed a water cut on Wednesday.
Residents of Bramhand, Patlipada and Waghbil have been facing water crisis since Wednesday, but neighbouring areas received water for just 15 minutes since the last three days.
Locals said that the TMC failed to intimate them about the water cut because of which it led to a lot of inconvenience.
Meanwhile, the civic officials said that the sudden shutdown was due to an operative issue in the Bhatsa reservoir.
“The water which is released from the dam into the weir itself was insufficient, so the lifting agencies like the municipal corporations had to curtail their supply. The situation that arose on late Tuesday evening couldn’t be rectified till Thursday, due to which the supply was completely shut,’’ an official from the water department said.
The Thane corporation lifts 200 million litres of water from Bhatsa reservoir to cater to residents of Ghodbunder Road and its neighbouring areas. As there was no other alternative, residents had to face the water cut. Other parts of the city, including Naupada and Kopri, get water through BMC. So, the situation in these areas was better, said residents.

Basant Sarangi, a resident of Rodas Enclave, said, “There was no intimation given by the TMC about the shutdown even after two days. This is one of the worst water cuts that we have faced over the last three years where we were left with absolutely no water in our homes for three days at a stretch,” he said.
Civic officials admitted that the water cuts had to be enforced as there was no supply being received from the reservoir. “There was a problem in releasing water in the weirs at Bhatsa due to which water wasn’t available to be pumped to the city. The situation was normalised by Friday after we discussed the issue with the concerned authorities on Thursday,” said a senior official from the water supply department.
