VARANASI: The mortal remains of
CRPF jawan Mahesh Kumar Kushwaha, who was martyred in Wednesday’s terror attack in Anantnag of J&K, were consigned to flames with full state honour on the banks of river Ganga near his parental Jaitpur village in Ghazipur district on Friday.
Mahesh’s father, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital after suffering heart attack recently, lit the pyre.
The mortal remains of Mahesh were brought to LBS International airport in Varanasi by a special IAF flight and where received by UP minister Neelkanth Tiwari and senior officers of CRPF, district administration and police.
After tributes were offered at the airport, the body was taken to Jaitpur village in Ghazipur district. Tiwari accompanied the body as state government representative.
In the presence of district magistrate Ghazipur K Balaji and senior officers of CRPF, the funeral procession started from Mahesh’s residence. Thousands of people from Jaitpur and adjoining villages took part in the procession.
Mahesh, who was married in 2009, is survived by wife and two children. His father Gorakhnath Kushwaha had suffered heart attack on Wednesday morning and was admitted to a local hospital. On getting information of his father’s health, Mahesh had assured his family of reaching home in a day or two. His wife was also hospitalized when she lost consciousness on receiving the news of Mahesh’s martyrdom.
