DRI seizes ganja worth Rs 1.9 crore on outskirts, 2 held

HYDERABAD: In what is one of the major seizures in recent times, DRI officials on Friday intercepted a cargo lorry on the outskirts of the city and seized 944.7 kg of marijuana worth Rs 1.88 crore.
Based on specific intelligence that narcotic substances were being transported illegally, the DRI officials launched an operation and intercepted a cargo lorry coming from the direction of Ramoji Film City at LB Nagar.

The contraband, packed in small packets, was concealed under a load of tender coconuts. The value of the contraband is about Rs 1.88 crore and it was sourced from the Andhra-Telangana border area.
The officials have also seized the lorry, which was used for transport of the contraband covered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. “Two persons, including the driver, were found involved in the illegal transport of ganja,” the officials said. Two persons were arrested .
