Jagan unlikely to accept BJP’s Lok Sabha deputy speaker post offer

Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy (L), Union home Minister Amit Shah
VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress supremo and chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday told party MPs that there was no need for an alliance with the BJP, indicating that he is not prepared to accept any posts at the Centre including the Lok Sabha deputy speakership.
The decision is in tune with his pre-election stand that YSRCP would support any political party that would give special category status to AP. Since the BJP has not yet responded positively on the SCS issue, he wants to wait.
Jagan was addressing the parliamentary party meeting of YSRCP in Delhi on Saturday. He, however, said there was no need for the MPs to go into a fighting mode with the BJP-led Central government.
“We will have some good relations with the BJP. There is no rivalry nor friendly relationship with the BJP as of now. Our relationship is healthy,” said party MP from Hindupur Gorantla Madhav. However, Jaganmohan Reddy had told every MP to be in touch with the government in getting new schemes to the state and also clearing all pending bills.
Jagan had set the core issue of Special Category Status issue as the agenda for the party MPs in Parliament. Jagan wanted the MPs to be vibrant and vigilant.
Jaganmohan Reddy had told the MPs to keep the SCS issue alive all through the Parliament sessions. He told them that the party with 22 MPs in Lok Sabha should get more time in the House to raise issues concerning the state. “Use every opportunity to demand SCS,” he said.

The chief minister had further told them that he would divide them into groups and give departments to deal with both inside and outside the Parliament.
The MPs concerned should take up the issues with the departments and see that funds are given from the Centre without delay.
