KANPUR: Police on Thursday night arrested two members of an illegal firearms smuggling gang in Rail Bazar area in the city and recovered four country-made pistols and a large number of cartridges from them.
SP (East) Raj Kumar Agarwal told reporters that acting on inputs, a police team was formed and a trap was laid near COD crossing in Rail Bazar area on late Thursday night. He said four finished firearms and nearly
100 cartridges were recovered from their possession.
They have been identified as Golu and Amar Kumar, residents of separate areas of the district.
He said soon arrest of a few other members of the gang will be made on the basis of the information provided by the accused.
“During interrogation, the accused informed police that they were on their way to Pratapgarh to deliver the firearms. They had procured the firearms from Mainpuri and cartridges from two local persons. We will nab them soon,” said another officer privy to the investigation.
