MHT CET Result 2019: Engg aspirants raise doubts over percentile scores

MUMBAI: After several engineering aspirants complained of discrepancies in their MHT-CET percentile scores, the state's CET cell has sought a third-party audit of the scoring pattern.

Since the MHT-CET was conducted online over a period of 11 days for the first time, the state’s CET Cell had to normalise the scores of all the 3.92 lakh students. When results of students were out last week, they were given percentile scores. Students, however, claimed that the process of normalisation followed by the CET cell is not clear.

Anand Rayate, commissioner of the state’s CET cell, said that the normalisation formula was applied after consulting experts from the field. “The students cannot demand for change in the evaluation pattern at this stage. The admission brochure had made it clear that results will be announced in percentile scores. After the results are announced, the students cannot ask for a change in the policy,” said Rayate. He added that they have sought a third-party audit of the process and are expecting the report by June 15. “The CET cell will abide by the report,” he said.

Father of one of the aspirants said that his daughter scored 85 out of 200 marks in the test but only got 37 percentile, whereas a student with 67 marks bagged 90 percentile in the test. “No one is able to clearly explain how they arrived at the score. We do not know if it is legitimate. But if we want the state to give us admissions based on the actual raw scores and not the percentile scores,” said the father, on condition of anonymity. Another parent said that his daughter got good scores in JEE and HSC when many students have not done well in the board exams, but has managed to get only 35 percentile in the MHT-CET.
