Teachers trained to handle kindergarten children

48 govt. middle schools in Ramnad to have KG classes

RAMANATHAPURAM

Secondary grade teachers who were appointed exclusively to teach pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children completed their three-day training on Friday as about 4,000 children have joined pre-KG, LKG and UKG classes introduced in 48 government middle schools in the district.

Two resource persons – M. Ulagaraj, Block Resource Teacher, and Jerline Rosi, a teacher from Sholandur Government Middle School – who underwent three days’ training in Chennai in Montessori method of education and kindergarten activities based on National Council of Educational Research and Training syllabus, trained the teachers in the district.

The three-day training programme was held at MG Public School at Peravur, which had a Montessori laboratory and teaching and learning materials supplied by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), SSA district coordinator T. Chandrasekar, who organised the training programme, said. “We have 48 trained teachers to handle kindergarten children in as many schools in the district,” he said.

While Mr. Ulagaraj and Ms. Rosi focused on child psychology and Montessori method of education, teachers Sumathi, Vanathi and Parameswari offered training in teaching English, Maths and Tamil respectively. The teachers were trained in painting, story telling and teaching through songs and dance, he said.

The government had selected 2,881 government middle schools across the State for introduction of pre-KG, LKG and UKG based on infrastructure facilities, he said.

Mr. Chandrasekar said the 48 middle schools selected in the district were located in Ramanathapuram, Paramakudi, Kamuthi, Tirupullani, Mudukulathur, Bogalur, Nainarkoil, Kadaladi and Mandapam.
